Sony reveals the Xperia S; 720p Reality display has never looked better
The Sony Xperia S (codenamed Nozomi, originally rumored to release as the Arc HD) is yet another Android device we’ve been dying to get a look at now that CES is finally here. And boy does it look good.
Internally, the Xperia S is nearly identical to the Xperia Ion announced for AT&T earlier today. They both have a 1.5GHz processor, 12 megapixel Exmor R camera and a 720p Reality display. Externally, the two devices are a different story.
While both devices do manage to retain the same squarish design, the Xperia S is smaller, with a 4.3-inch display instead of 4.65, and much flashier. There’s a black and a white version of the Xperia S, but both feature a black bezel nestled around the usable area of the screen. Right underneath the display’s bezel is a “transparent element” that adds an extra splash of class to an already handsome device.
There’s no LTE radios in the Xperia S like the Ion, but it is PlayStation Certified.
As for when the Xperia S will go on sale, it’ll be available in “select markets” by the end of Q1. The Xperia S is slated to launch with Gingerbread, but will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in the second quarter.
