Notion Ink Posts New Ice Cream Sandwich Alpha for Adam Tablet, Teases Announcement of Next Generation Developments
If you needed proof that the folks at Notion Ink were working hard on ironing out the bugs in the Ice Cream Sandwich update for their Notion Ink Adam tablet, here it is. Esteemed CEO Rohan Shravan has taken to their blog to post an update that fixes a ton of different things. Take a look at what we can expect so far:
Major fixes include:
- Audio
- Sensors (including Compass)
- Bluetooth
- Sleep bug partially fixed (you need to change the wi-fi policy for this)
- In case you have installed and device is not coming out of sleep, there is a re-set button near the MicroSD card. Press it to reset the device. Once it boots, turn on wifi, go to advanced settings, set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Never". It’s a known bug (mentioned in the blog as well) and will be resolved in the next drop. You must keep the "Wi-Fi on during sleep" set to Never.
- Hardware Acceleration
- Accelerated Video
- Wi-Fi
- HDMI Video (no sound)
- Capacitive Buttons
- Back Buttons
- SD Card Mount
- GPS
- 120dpi launcher fix
- 0.39 Kernel
However, they quickly remind us that there’s more to do:
What’s left:
- 3G, though it’s working on kernel level now
- Camera
- USB plugged-in at boot
- USB mass storage and MTP
- USB Flash Drive
- Light Sensor
- Sleep Bug
- Video Acceleration for High Quality YouTube Video
- HDMI Sound
At the rate they’re going we should have a solid daily driver by the end of the month but there’s no telling how long each issue will take. You can download the alpha from the mirrors here and here. Instructions for installation can be had here. Tread with caution.
Oh, and Rohan also tells us that we can expect an announcement next week unveiling some details about their “next generation” developments. We’re hoping for a new tablet, of course, but we’ll reserve our excitement for the actual announcement. Head to Notion Ink’s site for more details. [via The Verge]
